Frederick Robert Scott - born on the 11th June 1891.
Fred attended Hull Grammar school after which he worked for a small ironmongers owned by his uncle, on Great Union Street in Hull.
During the First World War he served with the East Riding Yeomanry in France, Palestine, and Egypt; whilst on leave from the Army on 1st August 1915 he married his fiancé, Lillian Archer.
After the war and looking to further his career, he moved to F&T Ross (Est 1843) who were trawler owners and ironmongers. Here he came through the ranks to become the sales manager and a company director.
During the Blitz in 1941 the F&T Ross premises on Myton Street were completely destroyed – the decision was made to close the ironmongery side of F&T Ross, with the trawlers being hired to the admiralty as mine sweepers.
Left without a job Fred decided to take the ironmongery side of the business himself – this continued to grow during the war and on the 13th October 1945, with investment from friends and family F R Scott Ltd was founded.
Fred passed away in September 1965 aged 74
